Match Report

Laurelvale

Date:

26/06/2010
Venue: Queensway

On Saturday Derriaghy travelled to Laurelvale and after winning the toss made first use of the wicket. Stuart Hegarty and Chris Adams opened the innings and looked in little trouble during their stand of 48. Hegarty was the first to go when he was caught behind for 25, continuing his recent good form. That wicket brought Colin Crookshanks to the crease and together with Adams added 46 runs. Adams was really hitting his stride now and will be disappointed he fell for 42 when he was run out just short of his 1st half century of the season. The wicket of Crookshanks soon followed his departure for 16 courtesy of a good caught and bowled. At 108 for 3 Derriaghy needed to rebuild and they did in fine fashion with Andy Kenny and Craig Lewis adding 82 in just under 14 overs. Kenny fell for a solid 46, again falling just short of a deserved 1st half century of the season. Lewis was batting well and when Faheem Suleman joined him, he soon brought up his own 50 before finally being bowled for 58, in what was his most responsible knock of the season so far. Suleman was also playing his best innings for Derriaghy and he added 34 with Ricky Hewitt before Hewitt holed out for 17. Suleman followed soon after chasing quick runs but found long off and was out for 33 and Derriaghy ended their 50 overs on 269 for 8.Derriaghy knew they had a good total on the board but were in no mood to take Laurelvale lightly and a hostile opening spell by Suleman reduced Laurelvale to 20 for 2 after 6 overs. An enterprising stand of 51 followed between Pearson and Hogg, but both fell in quick succession as 71 for 2 became 76 for 4 when Wayne Hughes had Pearson well caught behind by Jamison and Jennings had Hogg plumb lbw. Henry followed his mates back when he was very well run out by Adams and Jamison, and from here on in it was all about pride for Laurelvale and through Edgar and Hughes they managed to reach 127 for 5 at drinks. Just after drinks though the writing was on the wall when Adams held a very good catch when Laurelvale’s Hughes skied Derriaghy’s Hughes. His departure started a precession off wickets as Lewis and Suleman cleaned up the tail and quick fashion and Laurelvale ended on 141 all out. Derriaghy had won this basement battle by 128 runs and they knew how important this win was. Suleman completed a man of the match performance taking 4-20 while Lewis 2-42 and Hughes 2-33 ably backed him up. Jennings took 1-21 to complete the figures.
