Match Report

Muckamore

Date:

24/04/2010
Venue: Queensway

Derriaghy opened their 2010 season against pre season title favourites Muckamore at Queensway and suffered a disappointing 151 run defeat. Muckamore have been very active in the winter transfer market, adding quality senior cricketers like Horwood and Baguley to an already talented squad, so Derriaghy were massive underdogs, but still wanted to push Muckamore closer than they did.Muckamore won the toss and batted first and amassed an impressive 293 for 7 in their 50 overs. Baguley top scored with a chanceless 97 and Dunlop scored 83. All the bowlers suffered economically, with the exception of Wayne Hughes who bowled a beautiful spell of spin bowling, 10 overs costing just 23 runs. His flight and control were very impressive, so much so that he conceded just 2 boundaries in his spell. Ricky Hewitt was the main wicket taker with 3-60, while Craig Lewis, Stuart McAllister and Aaron Kinnin took the other wickets. In reply Derriaghy needed a positive start, but this didn’t materialise as Derriaghy old boy Neil Gill captured 2 wickets to leave Derriaghy at 11 for 3 after just 7 overs. With seemingly little to lose, Lewis launched a savage counter attack on the Muckamore bowlers, scoring 59 in just 24 balls. The innings demonstrated Lewis striking ability, and hopefully there will be more to come in 2010. His knock included 6 boundaries and 4 sixes. His attack spurred on Matty Jennings who scored 45 in a blistering stand of 108 in 10 overs. Jennings hit 6 boundaries and 2 sixes before falling short of a half century. Unfortunately after both men fell in quick succession, Derriaghy slumped from 119 for 5 to 142 all out, with only Kinnin (18) reaching double figures.
