Derriaghy showed some good fighting spirit in going down by 77 runs to Irish champions Waringstown in their first friendly of the 2012 season.
Derriaghy lost the toss and were asked to bowl first. They bowled well and restricted Waringstown to 201 all out inside their 40 overs. The star of the show was Curtis Moorehead with 3 wickets while Wayne Hughes took 2 wickets courtesy of Stephen Cairnduff stumpings. Craig Lewis bowled 7 economical overs for 15 runs. Unfortunately though the all rounder sustained a nasty ankle injury and couldnt complete his spell.
Without Lewis winning the game looked unlikely so Derriaghy used the game as practice and scored 124 in their 40 overs. David Scott, Matty Jennings and Mark Coburn all got into the 20s but couldnt go on and make a big score.
Derriaghy are looking to build on this display with games at home to Saintfield (23rd April) and Cliftonville (24th April).
